Husband to Joy for 40 years, and father to three married kids, Paul is also grandfather to four grandchildren. His professional work has focused on mission contexts throughout the world. Presently, Paul serves as the Executive Director of the Center for Applied Lutheran Leadership (CALL), developing young and old Christian missional leaders in and for the mission of God in a COEXIST world. In addition, he is responsible for managing, in a partnership with the Northwest District of the Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod (LCMS), Mission Training Center (MTC), a program which develops and offers non-credit courses preparing missional people for ministry in the church: lay women and men, licensed deacons, and those preparing for seminary entrance. Paul has served internationally as well. After serving as an Evangelistic Missionary in Liberia, W. Africa, he was called to be the Regional Director – Africa and managed LCMS World Mission African missionaries while developing and maintaining partnerships with over 24 African National Lutheran Churches. Paul served for 12 years as the missions professor at Concordia University in St. Paul and Directed the Oswald Hoffmann School of Christian Outreach on that campus. Paul also served as Associate Executive Director for LINC-Twin Cities, vacancy pastor, and one of three pastors in a large Lutheran congregation.
Paul’s personal time is spent with his wife, Joy, who is Associate Professor of Education at CU-Portland. They travel as much as possible, but when in Portland, Paul spends hours on the soccer pitch playing left striker or midfield, on the basketball court, or enjoying their home on the Columbia River.
