Concordia University – Portland announces a Teach-Out Partnership with Concordia University Chicago for the Ed.D. Program
Concordia University - Portland has identified a teach-out partnership with Concordia University Chicago, pending formal approval of the accrediting bodies.
This option is available to all Ed.D. students who have attended and earned credits toward their current degree program at Concordia Portland within the last three (3) calendar years. All Concordia Portland Ed.D. students in good academic and financial standing are guaranteed admission to Concordia-Chicago, and will receive a customized degree completion plan supporting each student’s goals and concentration selections. Concordia-Chicago will accept 100% of credits earned at, or accepted as transfer credit by Concordia Portland toward a related degree program. Concordia-Chicago and Concordia Portland are working through the details to invite current dissertation chairs and committee members to continue with their respective academic programs.
Current Ed.D. students will receive an email from the Concordia University – Portland Registrar with details on how to proceed should they choose to pursue this option. Upon choosing this option, students can expect to receive outreach from the Student Success Advising Team for assistance and further information.
Concordia Portland Ed.D. students are at liberty to complete their programs at any institution, subject to the program offerings and transfer guidelines of that institution. Please see the below list of transfer universities who are working with our students to help them complete their program.

Program Change
EdD Candidates may apply for a change of program to the Education Specialist degree program. The EdS candidate will be required to successfully complete EDDR 797 Education Specialist Capstone during the March 2-April 25, 2020 session. Upon successful completion of the Education Specialist Capstone course and confirmation of all university requirements, the candidate will be eligible to be awarded the Education Specialist degree.

Transfer of Educational Specialist degree credits earned at CU-P to another university would be governed by the policies of the receiving institution. If candidates are interested in earning a terminal degree after receiving the EdS degree from CU-P, then before entering this degree track, they should explore options with other institutions for transfer of EdS credits to another institution’s EdD program.
To request a Program Change:
- Download Program Change Application form
- Complete form and sign.
- Reach out to your student Services Advisor requesting the academic program change from EdD to EdS. Advisor signature is required.

Deadlines & Key Notes:
- The course add deadline for candidates who need EDDR 797 to complete the EDS degree is 4:30PM March 6, 2020.
- The final application deadline for candidates who are able to take advantage of the course equivalency option for EDDR 797 is April 3, 2020.
- Prior to requesting any course enrollment changes, candidates should consult with Financial Aid and/or Student Accounts on financial implications for any changes in credit loads.
- Candidates who would like to transfer to another accredited Doctorate of Education program will need to follow the transfer process defined by the receiving institution.
- Transfer requirements vary by institution. Candidates should consider all viable options before making a final decision on any transfer.
