Wil Stelzer grew up in Long Island, New York. His dad is a LCMS pastor at Our Savior Lutheran in Centereach. His mom spent most of her energy raising Wil and his five other siblings. In high school, Wil played for his dad's basketball team as well as participating on the soccer and baseball teams. When he arrived at Concordia University Chicago, he continued to play basketball and soccer while studying French, Spanish, Greek, Hebrew and Latin. After graduation, Wil returned to his home state to teach foreign languages, ESL and Physical Education at Our Savior New American School. Two years later, Wil journeyed to Concordia Seminary in St. Louis where he spent six years studying for his master's and doctorate degrees. While there, he also served as the Athletic Director for the seminary sports teams.
Wil currently serves as the teaching fellow for the Division of Theology at Concordia Portland. This year he is teaching courses on the history and literature of the Old and New Testament. He also serves as an assistant coach for Concordia's men's basketball team.
