How to Apply to the Nursing Program as a Transfer Student

Please note that the 2008 summer cohort applications are available December 1, and that applications for the 2007 year are no longer being accepted.

All BSN candidates (external candidates and Concordia students*) must submit a complete BSN Application Portfolio. All materials must be submitted at one time in the portfolio envelope. Applicants who download the BSN Application for Admission from the website may submit their BSN Application Portfolio in a white 9x12 envelope addressed to:

Please also write the following on the lower-left corner of the envelope:

Application Materials

Applications will not be considered for admission if they are not complete upon receipt. The highly competitive review process will examine both grades and personal qualities identified in required essays and recommendations. Applicants may also be asked to take a critical thinking test and/or participate in an interview. BSN candidates can begin submitting applications for the 2007 Summer BSN cohort on December 1, 2006. BSN candidates must submit (or postmark) their completed BSN Application Portfolio by February 1, 2007.

A complete BSN Application Portfolio contains the following:

  • Completed and signed BSN Application Checklist (Available Fall 2006)
  • Completed BSN Application Form (Available Fall 2006)
  • $50 non-refundable nursing application fee made payable to Concordia University (not applicable to current Concordia students)
  • Two page Statement of Purpose which must be typed, double spaced to include the following:
  • One paragraph explaining your decision to become a nurse
  • One paragraph describing the gifts and experience you will bring to promoting health and caring for the sick as a nurse
  • One paragraph describing the challenges you expect to face as you study nursing – What weaknesses will you need to overcome?
  • Two Letters of Recommendation from a current professor, supervisor, or clergy that affirm your ability to study at the university level and your aptitude for nursing
  • Official Transcripts from all institutions previously attended – Transcripts must remain in their sealed unopened envelopes to be considered official. (Current Concordia students must submit only transcripts from other institutions attended since they began attending at CU.)

* Students admitted into the Freshman BSN Program beginning in Fall 2006 will not go through the transfer BSN cohort application process. A Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) certificate is required PRIOR to entrance into the Nursing Program. This course is not available through Concordia University.
