Background
Have you wondered if college is the right decision for you? Perhaps you have contemplated working for a while-or not at all and think that spending the winter snow skiing would be the best thing. As a freshman in college I had similar thoughts. But college prepared me for many adventures in life and helped me to do a better job at critically thinking through many issues and problems. Moreover, college helped me decide what I wanted to do with my life.
Do I encourage college? You bet. Besides ensuring higher pay checks each month as compared to my friends who did not finish college, my college education allowed me to enter the United States Air Force as an officer where I enjoyed a career flying jets and leading people. Along the way I was given many opportunities to excel. As a result, I believe that I have a tremendous amount of life experiences that I can pass on to you. This is an advantage that I, along with my colleagues in the School of Management, have over many other professors from other institutions who have worked very little outside the classroom.
According to two studies, only about 59-68 percent of college faculty in the United States have held a job other than teaching. Not only do I possess theoretical training resulting from my studies for a masters degree and a doctorate, but I also have a wealth of practical real-world experience.
I find it exciting to be a member of a team of professionals which can boast of having operated businesses, published articles and books, managed high-dollar projects (and a lot of small ones, too), and led diverse groups of people to reach success in their organizations. Concordia will prepare you beyond your expectations in a caring and nurturing environment. I know thats how I feel every time I drive in to work each morning. Thus, I believe in giving you what counts most - quality teaching combined with a personal concern for your education.
So what do I do at Concordia? I am the Chair of the Business Department. I also teach an introductory course for underclassmen known as the Ethical Business Environment, a Human Resource Management course, and courses on Leadership and Organizational Behavior at both the undergraduate and graduate level. Furthermore, I operate the business internship program for seniors and have oversight over many of our mentoring programs. I am glad to say that I will meet you somewhere along the way!
