Oregon Public Broadcasting’s Think Out Loud examined how smaller, rural school districts attract teachers. Concordia University education major, Jared Ball, shared his opinions as one of four guests on the program that aired on Nov. 24th. The program shed light on how rural schools in Oregon are struggling to fill job openings, especially in special education, science, and advanced math. What are smaller districts and rural areas doing to attract new teachers?

Leaders of Concordia University’s Homeland Security degree program and Homeland Security Simulation Center were called upon to share their experience on issues of terrorism and security preparation and responsiveness in the wake of the Paris tragedy. The Concordia community will gather in prayer and reflection at a special Chapel honoring victims and those affected.

According to Portland Public School’s Faubion School Principal LaShawn Lee, “This is a university 122 steps away that is graduating the top teachers. And I had the need to have those teachers in my building,” she says. “We had to connect our institutions.”
