Northwest Center for Children’s Literature (NWCCL) Collections
The collections of the Northwest Center for Children’s Literature are housed in the NWCCL Room on the 2nd floor of the George R. White Library & Learning Center. Publishers donate most of the materials that are part of the NWCCL Collections The majority are publishers of children’s literature in North America; however, the number of non-North American contributors is growing. Reading and conference areas are provided in the Center.
The NWCCL houses four main collections: the Preview Collection, the Permanent Collection, the Reference Collection, and the Journal Collection. The Preview and the Permanent Collections are further divided into picture books, fiction books, non-fiction books, and religious books.
Books in the Preview and Permanent Collections of the Center are organized by last name of the author. Books in the Center’s Reference Collection are organized by Library of Congress Classification Number. Journals are shelved in alphabetical order by title.
Books remain part of the Center’s Preview collection for two years after publication. Following that two-year period, the Center’s Collection Advisory Board reviews the books to determine whether they will become part of the Center’s Permanent Collection. Those books that are not chosen to become part of the Center’s Permanent Collection are distributed through local neighborhood organizations to area children.
Materials from the collections of the NWCCL must be used at the center. They are not available for interlibrary loan.
