Position Description:

The Dean of the Concordia University School of Law will be responsible for creating a new law school program in Boise, Idaho with classes scheduled to begin in Fall, 2009 and with the intent to be accredited by the American Bar Association and the Northwest Commission on Colleges and Universities.

The Dean of the Concordia University Law School reports to the Concordia University Provost and provides strategic and tactical leadership to the law school program. The successful director will actively support the mission of the university, create a dynamic law school based on the core values of the institution dedicated to integrating faith and reason into a high quality degree program, and will direct programs which produce exemplary qualified graduates who will be net contributors to their profession and the communities in which they live and work.

Concordia University seeks a Dean who can assure the school's quality as a research, teaching, and service institution, build and enhance its financial strength, and further develop its mutually beneficial links to the University and the community beyond. The Dean must be an individual with vision, who can build a strong leadership team, who can communicate effectively with University constituencies, and who can enhance the strong sense of community that now exists among faculty, students, administrators, and staff. The Dean must demonstrate the leadership, intelligence, and capacity to engage the full complexity of the law school's research, teaching, and service missions. Because the Law School is a start up project, the Dean must be able to anticipate the current and future needs of legal education and incorporate those needs with the requirements of the American Bar Association, and the needs of Boise, Idaho and northwest region of the United States.

Concordia University is a regionally accredited Lutheran institution of higher learning headquartered in Portland, Oregon. The Concordia University School of Law is intended to meet a demonstrated need in Idaho, particularly in the Ada County area, but will draw students from a national audience. Boise a growing, vibrant city of over 600,000 does not currently have a law school. A number of community partners have stepped forward inviting Concordia University to fill this need

Salary: Salary is commensurate with experience, educational background, professional experience, and scholarship activity.
Benefits include: Health insurance, disability insurance, pension and tuition remission. The Dean position is a full time, 12 month, renewable appointment.
