Jody and George Thurston

The Luminary Society has been established at Concordia University to appreciate those who have remembered us in their future giving and estate plans. Your participation in the Luminary Society helps assure the values of justice, compassion, and moral integrity will thrive in the lives of Concordia students and in the future your generosity will help them create. As a member, you will be invited to our annual Luminary Luncheon as well, to share in the celebration of Concordia.

Gift Annuities

Creating a gift annuity allows you to obtain a higher level of retirement income while helping young people have the chance to earn a university degree. A gift annuity is an agreement between a person (or couple) and Concordia where the person gives Concordia money, and in exchange Concordia makes high, fixed-for-life payments back the donor for life (annuity). When the donor passes away, the balance becomes an outright gift to the University.

Charitable Trusts

Charitable Remainder Trusts (CRTs) can be one of the most powerful planning tools available as people do retirement and estate planning.

CRTs afford the donor potentially five favorable tax outcomes by virtue of one financial transaction. They are:

  1. Capital gain tax avoidance
  2. Income tax deduction
  3. Tax free compounding
  4. Income payments taxed favorably
  5. Estate tax elimination (for those people with larger estates)

If you have an asset (or assets) that has appreciated significantly in value, and you are considering selling it, call Concordia for more information about how a CRT might be right for you.
