A True Community Partner
When it comes to Concordia’s relationship with the community, university president Charles E. Schlimpert has a simple philosophy: “If it’s good for the community, it’s good for Concordia.” Here at the Concordia University-Portland campus, this unique approach has resulted in an athletic complex where fields are reserved for neighborhood leagues more than 50 percent of the time. The campus library has issued thousands of library cards to families in their northeast Portland neighborhood and is frequently the site of community-oriented meetings. And most recently, the university has partnered with nearby Faubion School to promote life-long learning within a diverse community. Giving back to, partnering with, and supporting the community we call home has been a matter of course for more than 100 years.
“If it’s good for the community, it’s good for Concordia.”
