Background:

Dr. Petrie joined Concordia University in 2013 after teaching at Concordia College in the New York City area for three years. Prior to living on the East Coast, he taught in the business programs at California State University Fullerton and the University of Redlands. His specialty is emerging information technologies and their use in business. Through the years, he has taught management, operations, systems development, enterprise software, e-commerce, capstone, and research courses at the undergraduate and masters level. David enjoys engaging students in business operations and technologies through field projects, business simulation games, and hands-on use of business software.

David has held information technology staff and management positions in high technology and financial services companies, mostly in Southern California. In addition, he is active with consulting projects that focus on the effective use of information technologies in a variety of industries: entertainment, recreational products, telecommunications, software, non-profit, and industrial products. Business students have participated in several of these projects. David works with the entrepreneurial community of Portland to identify opportunities for research and class projects.

On a personal note, David enjoys travel, fishing, reading, church, and volunteer projects. He is particularly interested in meeting and learning from people across the country and around the world. David and his wife Nancy look back on their time in the Northeast as a great adventure. Their next adventure is in Portland, partly to be near six grandchildren here on the West Coast.
