Scheduling Tips
Social Science Majors
Sophomore Year:
Try to finish the majority of your General Education requirements by the end of your sophomore year. Take SOC 331 Research and Statistics (Math 110 is the pre-requisite).
During Spring semester, complete Admission to Major, providing that you have completed 45 credits.
Junior Year:
Take ENG 303, 304, 305, or 306
Complete a graduation application 2-3 semesters in advance.
Plan carefully for every other year courses (see below).
Talk to Jane Smith about Senior Project requirements.
Junior or Senior Year:
Take HUM 351 and REL 371.
Senior Year:
Take SOC 496, Senior Project. Jane Smith is the advisor.

- ENG 351 Advanced Speech
- PHL 201 Intro to Philosophy
- PSC 201 American Government
- HST 3XX many 300 level history classes are offered every other year
- PSY 343 Psych of Personality (alternating Spring semesters)
- PSY 412 Neurological Psych (alternating Spring semesters)
- PSY 432 Experimental Psych
Psychology Majors
General Information:
PSY 288-488/251-451 is a departmental seminar with topics that change yearly. Summer 08 topics are: Building Resiliency within the School Community and Psychology of the Simpsons. Fall 08 topics are: Therapeutic Intervention for Children, Counseling across Cultures, and Ethical Issues in Psychology. Spring 09 topics are: Adolescents in Crisis and Understanding the PSY Major.
Sophomore Year:
Try to finish majority of General Education requirements by end of your sophomore year. Take PSY 202, if not taken freshman year. Take PSY 231 Research & Statistics (Math 110 is pre-requisite). For Grad School Prep Emphasis, PSY 231 MUST BE completed before beginning your junior year. Some options for Psychology classes in your sophomore year are: PSY 341, PSY 342, PSY 312, PSY 321
During spring semester, information will be sent to eligible students for Admission to Major (45 credits at 2.5 GPA). Transfer students with 45+ credits are eligible after completing one semester at CU.
Junior Year:
Take WR 303, 304, 305, or 306.

For Grad School Prep Emphasis, take PSY 432, Experimental Psych, in the fall and PSY 492, Senior Thesis Prep, in spring
Senior Year:
REL 401 is the capstone REL class (only for students who did not take REL 141).
For Child & Family Dev. Emphasis, take PSY 391 Pre-Internship, in the fall.
Take PSY 491 Psychology Internship, in the spring. Dr. Jane Smith is the advisor.
For Grad School Prep Emphasis, PSY 493, Senior Thesis I, is taken fall and PSY 494, Senior Thesis II, is taken spring. Dr. Kevin Simpson is the advisor.
Classes Only Offered Every Other Year:
- PSY 343 Psychology of Personality (alternating Spring semesters)
- PSY 412 Neurological Psychology (alternating Spring semesters)
All other classes are offered every year, but many are offered only one semester, i.e., fall only or spring only.
