MADE for Kids
MADE for Kids is Music, Art & Drama Education, a community-oriented opportunity for North and N.E. Portland Kids. Established by Concordia University (CU) in 1996, the program is designed to encourage underprivileged children with interactive arts experiences beyond their regular school programs. MADE for Kids incorporates diverse student help from CU theatre and art programs to Elementary Education students. Saturday Arts Carnivals and Summer Camps have featured local artists-in-residence like Will Hornyak and Tears of Joy, while some CU theatre productions and arts activities are Made for Kids. This intergenerational, interscholastic experiment has been supported through grants from the Pamplin Foundation, Herbert Templeton Foundation, Autzen Foundation, Union Pacific Foundation, and the McMenamin Brothers. Recent MADE activities have included CU's own Case of the Broken Zoosafone (presented to 8 neighboring Elementary schools), Aladdin (Summer Camp), Folk Tales and World Legends (presented at Faubion Elementary classrooms by CU Education students) and the 2006 original one-act musical Mirror, Mirror, Off the Wall.
MADE for Kids has been made possible in the past by generous grants from The Herbert A Templeton Foundation, The Anne A. Berni Foundation, Wells Fargo and Co., The Wyss Foundation, Union Pacific Foundation, and McMenamins Brothers.
