MADE for Kids – Spring/Summer 2008 Theatre Arts Camp

Improve your skills in acting, singing, dancing, & writing as we create fully-staged shows based on Asian and American folk tales. Family and friends will be invited to a special performance on the last day of each camp at 2pm.
All camps are held in the Theatre (Fine Arts Building) on the Concordia University campus located on the corner of NE 27th and Highland. Students will be provided with morning and afternoon snacks, but will need to bring a sack lunch daily.

Spring Break:
“The Magic Ring (or Why Dogs and Cats are Enemies)”

  • One-week camp (for kids entering grades 2-5)
  • March 24th-28th
  • Monday-Friday, 9am-3pm
  • $155 for the whole week
  • closing performance Friday, March 28th at 2pm

Summer (two camps):
“Tall Tales from the Wild West”

  • One-week camp (for kids entering grades 2-5)
  • July 21st - 25th
  • $155 for the one-week camp
  • closing performance Friday, July 25th at 2pm
  • Two-week camp (for kids entering grades 4-7)
  • July 28th - August 8th
  • $275 for the two-week camp
  • closing performance Friday, August 8th at 2pm

Registration is limited to 30 students per camp. Additional registrations received will be placed on a waiting list pending cancellations.

Cancellation Policy: 100% refund up to 30 days prior to the beginning of camp; 50% refund between 30 and 8 days before camp; no refund within a week of the camp's start date. A full refund within 30 days may be granted if there is a replacement from the waiting list.

About the instructors

Mark Steering

Mark has a degree in Performing & Expressive Arts from Ithaca College in New York. He has performed as an actor, singer, and puppeteer for many northwest theatre companies and is currently half of the singing duo “Humble Divas.” He has directed dozens of theatre camps and stage and/or music directed as many musical productions. Currently, Mark teaches private and group lessons in singing and vocal technique (to children and adults). He is the musical theatre instructor at Oregon Children's Theatre and has directed for Northwest Children's Theatre's school outreach program.

Sarah Grace Shewbert

Sarah Grace has a master's in Music from the University of Portland as well as degrees in Music from Portland State and Theatre and English from Concordia University. She has served as musical theatre instructor and accompanist at Oregon Children's Theatre and is the music instructor for and organizer of the MADE for Kids program at Concordia University. Sarah Grace has directed and music directed at Concordia where she currently works in the Performing and Visual Arts Department. She freelances as a pianist around town, is an avid singer and composer and is a member of the rock band Stillvoice.
