Background
Pastor Phillip Brandt is the son of a Lutheran Pastor and served fourteen years in parish ministry before joining the Concordia University faculty in the summer of 2005. His first call was to Cross of Christ Lutheran Church, Bountiful, Utah from 1991-2000 and then Saint Paul Lutheran Church and School in Roseburg, Oregon from 2000-2005. In addition to his service in the parish, he has also served on the Board of Directors for Salt Lake Lutheran High School (1995-2000); as the Site Coordinator for Satellite Colloquy programs on behalf of Concordia University, Seward (1993-2000); and as an adjunct instructor for Ethnic Institute in Theology operated by Concordia Seminary, St Louis(2004-2005). Since 2002 he has been an instructor for the Leadership Advancement Process (LAP) of the Northwest District and the Missionary Training Center operated through Concordia College, Bronxville, NY.
His academic interests lay in the study of Biblical and Historical Theology, especially the Patristic and Medieval periods and the Reformation era.
Pastor Brandt teaches a wide range of courses on campus, including introductory Theology, Biblical Studies, Confessional Theology and Historical Theology.
He is married to Stephanie Nordling Brandt and together they raise their three children not far from Concordia’s campus. In addition to the study of history and theology, Prof Brandt enjoys singing hymns, nurturing his garden, and playing in his woodshop.
