Background

Prior to coming to Concordia University, professor Gerd Horten taught at UC Berkeley, St. Mary’s College, the University of San Francisco and Menlo School. His professional interests focus on American history, especially cultural and social history, as well as comparative and international history. He has published several articles on American radio propaganda during World War II. His book, Radio Goes to War: The Cultural Politics of Propaganda During World War II, was published by The University of California Press in 2002. He is currently working on a study analyzing the influences of American culture on the German media from the 1960s to the present. Currently, Gerd teaches courses in American civilization, media and film studies, race relations, international relations as well as general humanities survey classes.
