Background
Prior to coming to Concordia University, Professor Gerd Horten taught at U.C. Berkeley, St. Mary's College, the University of San Francisco and Menlo School. His professional interests focus on American and comparative history, particularly the interaction between politics and the media. He has published several articles on American radio broadcasting during World War II as well as other aspects of media history. His first book, Radio Goes to War: The Cultural Politics of Propaganda During World War II, was published by The University of California Press in 2002. He is now working on a study of American-German relations in the 1960s and 1970s as well as pursuing research on the media's role during wartime from the Vietnam through the Iraq War. Currently, Professor Horten teaches courses in American history, media and film studies, international relations as well as general humanities survey classes.
