Background
Chad's work explores the intersection of faith and culture in a variety of ways. His doctoral dissertation argues that the church is culturally captive in a variety of ways, using examples of church practices to demonstrate this problem and then pointing toward a solution for recovering practices that more faithfully embody the biblical narrative. Chad has published journal articles that also take up various topics in the intersection of faith and culture. He has also presented numerous conference papers, both nationally and internationally. Chad is one of coordinators for the Church and Postmodern Culture Blog.
Before joining the faculty at Concordia University, Chad was involved in planting a church in St. Louis, MO (Christ in the City / CRAVE Coffeehouse), subsequently serving as a worship director there until 2010. He later founded a collective for young adults at Concordia Lutheran Church in Kirkwood, MO (theOpen).
Chad loves great coffee, great beer, great books and great drummers. He loves listening to progressive rock music-his favorite band is Dream Theater-and playing along on his own drum kit when he gets a chance. Chad and his wife Bethany live just across the Columbia River from Concordia University in Vancouver, WA. They recently welcomed their darling daughter Anabel Grace into the world (August 2012).
