Background

Dr. Kunert has been on the faculty since 1969, the longest tenure of any of the current faculty. During that tenure he has served as Professor of Biology, Women's basketball coach, Registrar, Math-Science Department Chair, and most recently, Dean of the College of Theology, Arts, & Sciences (CTAS). Dr. Kunert has been instrumental in the development of the current Biology major, as well as developing programs in Environmental Management, Field Studies, Pre-Medicine, and Pre-Physical Therapy. He has witnessed the growth of the majors of the CTAS from fewer than 80 majors five years ago to almost 200 majors. He is the recipient of numerous grants for improving science education, including grants from the National Science Foundation and the Murdock Charitable Trust. His academic interests focus on advances in understanding how genes function as well as the intersection of faith and science, particularly in the area of creation and evolution. He is the author of numerous journal articles and is completing work on a textbook in evolution.
