Considering a career in church work?
As a student, you may be wondering if profession church work is right for you. Explore some of the most frequently asked questions below.
I don't feel like I am good enough as a person to be a church worker.
No one is perfect — including church workers. God has used sinful people for thousands of years to accomplish great things. We are "good enough" through the forgiveness offered to each of us through the redemptive works of Jesus Christ. We aren't perfect but we are forgiven. We serve in thanksgiving and love.
Church work doesn't seem to be that exciting and I've heard it doesn't pay well either.
Thousands of professional church workers live comfortably, support families, and find fulfillment in ministry. Read Ecclesiastes. All the money, wisdom, and comforts of the world fail to bring happiness. What does bring happiness is a life of purpose and being used as God's tool to make a difference in the lives of others. Now that's exciting.
I keep praying, but I'm not sure God is telling me to become a Professional Church Worker.
If you are not sure that God is telling you to go into church work, you probably are not sure that He's telling you not to. We all would like a lightning bolt revelation from God telling us what to do. Try this! If you pray and you can't honestly say that God is leading you to do something else, consider working for Him. In addition, seek counsel from your pastor or DCE. Ultimately, remain in the Word and in prayer.
I just don't know how good I would be at church work.
It's not how good you are that matters, it's how good Jesus is! At Concordia University, you will learn from experienced teachers, DCEs, and pastors. Classes will equip you for success. Ultimately, we all depend on God and the power of the Holy Spirit for guidance.

Talk to your parents, your pastor or DCE, or call Concordia University to talk with Dean Hansen or Sarah Elliott in the Christian Ministry department. Above all, talk to God!
