Becoming a Director of Christian Education (DCE)

Christian educators are involved in many ministries, from congregations to camps, missions to other non-profit organizations. Concordia University’s B.A. in Christian Education program provides a firm foundation for individuals entering the ministry field. Class work includes training and challenges in six essential functions: Christian educator, family life enhancer, consultant, missionary, leader, and administrator.

Students who wish to serve in the congregations and organizations of the Lutheran Church - Missouri Synod may seek DCE certification upon completion of the B.A. in Christian Education, which includes a year-long DCE internship in an assigned congregation.

Director of Christian Education Certification

The DCE Certificate is for those who seek to serve as a director of Christian education in the Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod. You will train as both an educator and a theologian in the skills of a Life Span educator—one who helps equip children, youth and families from birth through the end of life.

The DCE is a Christian educator, leader, administrator, family life enhancer, consultant, and a missionary. Graduates of this program obtain general skills within each of these areas. The DCE is a person who continues to learn, grow and nurture his/her faith in Jesus Christ to be a healthy and productive servant to the Lord.
