About the MAT Program

Concordia University’s MAT program is designed to enable candidates to enter the teaching profession at the Initial Teaching License level. The desired outcome of the program is that candidates will be trained to exhibit moral character and high ethical standards, show genuine sensitivity to diversity issues and special needs of children, plan and execute developmentally appropriate learning activities, demonstrate competency in various methods of authentic assessment, and understand teaching as an act of supreme service to others.

The MAT program accepts candidates who have already earned a Baccalaureate degree and wish to pursue teacher licensing. Upon successful completion, students are recommended for an Oregon Initial Teaching License.

Concordia University’s teacher education program, which was established in 1905, is approved by the Oregon Teacher Standards and Practices Commission (TSPC) and accredited by the Northwest Commission on Colleges and Universities (NWCCU).
