Background

Jane teaches literacy courses at Concordia and it is her hope that she will be able to awaken in her students a passion for reading and its issues while they learn information that is relevant to their teaching lives.

Her experience includes teaching in the classroom, grades 4 and 6, working as a school reading specialist/ Title I Teacher and then District Coordinator/Literacy Coach in the Oregon Trail School District, grades K-12, for over 20 years. She has been full-time faculty at Concordia eight years, in which time she has also served as President of the Portland Reading Council and Secretary/Librarian of the Oregon Reading Association. Her articles on literacy have been published by both organizations.

Jane helped to write Concordia's reading endorsement, which was approved readily by the Teacher Standards and Practices Commission of Oregon. With pride, the Concordia reading endorsement program is becoming renowned statewide. For five years, Jane also served as Program Director for the MAT Program at Concordia.

Jane loves to cook new dishes, read, travel to Hawaii, spend time with family, and is passionate about teaching all children to read! She lives in Gresham, Oregon, with her husband of over 40 years, Ron. They have two beautiful daughters, three beautiful granddaughters, and three very handsome grandsons.
