Background: 

Brent has been the Dean of Libraries at Concordia since 2003 and the director of the Center for Volga German Studies (CVGS) since its founding in 2004. He serves as the CU Libraries’ faculty liaison to the School of Management.

Before coming to Concordia, Brent was the director of the Walker Management Library of the Owen Graduate School of Management at Vanderbilt University (1999-2003) and the director of the Management Library of the Krannert Graduate School of Management at Purdue University (1994-1999). As a corporate librarian/business analyst, Brent has worked for Bell Northern Research (now NorTel) and Brown & Root Engineering (now KBR).

Brent has been very active in the international library arena, serving in 2012 as president of the Special Libraries Association, an association of over 10,000 subject specialist librarians in 57 countries. He has also been active with a number of state and regional library groups. On behalf of the CVGS, Brent has been an invited speaker at programs and conferences held across the U.S. and Canada, as well as in Germany, Argentina, and Japan.

Brent is the father of three wonderful children: Maria, a student at Gonzaga University; Anna, a student at Washington University in Saint Louis; and John, a student at Jesuit High School in Portland. He is an avid tennis player and enjoys discussing all things Volga German.
