Concordia University Portland seeks a dynamic individual to join its growing team as Director of Church Relations. The director will have the unique opportunity to work with administration, faculty and Foundation staff to create a strategic and robust church relations program including fundraising for university priorities and the new Center for Lutheran Studies; initiatives designed to strengthen collaborative relationships with Lutheran congregations, agencies and individuals in the northwest; and the enhancement of student recruitment and support for the lay and professional church workers of the region. Qualified candidates should have a passion for Lutheran education, major gift fundraising experience, strategic planning skills, and strong oral and written abilities and be a rostered member of the LCMS.

Alumni and Friends are invited to gather in Kirkland and Olympia, Wash. to cheer on the Cavaliers as they take on Northwest Christian College and Evergreen State College. The game against Northwest Christian College will take place on Friday, January 5 and the game at Evergreen State College will take place on Saturday, January 6. At both locations, the women’s games start at 5:30 p.m., men’s at 7:30 p.m. Tickets will be available at the door. Look for the navy and white balloons and the official cheer section for Concordia.
It turned out to be a banner year for the fall sports teams at Concordia University, as the men’s soccer, women’s soccer and men’s cross country teams all qualified for national competitions and the women’s volleyball team advanced to the conference tournament. The CU women’s soccer team advanced to the Final Four of the NAIA National Championships for the second time in three years. The season ended with a 3-1 loss in the semifinals. The national tournament appearance was the sixth straight for the Cavaliers, who finished with a 20-2-2 overall record. The Cavaliers won their seventh straight Cascade Collegiate Conference title, winning all nine regular-season conference games by shutout. Concordia then beat Oregon Tech and Evergreen to win the conference tournament. The Cavaliers’ men’s soccer team earned a co-championship in the Cascade Collegiate Conference, then won the NAIA Region 1 Tournament in Salt Lake City, Utah to earn an automatic berth to the NAIA Men’s Soccer National Championships in Daytona Beach, Fla. The Cavaliers ended up on the short end of a 2-1 decision to Milligan, Tenn. in the first round of the national tournament.
In just their second year as a program, the Concordia men’s cross country team earned an automatic berth to the NAIA National Championships. The team finished 20th at the meet, which was held on Nov. 18 in Louisville, Ky. The Cavaliers won the team titles at the combined NAIA Region 1/Cascade Collegiate Conference meet, held Nov. 4. In the region team standings, Concordia finished with 66 points. The Concordia volleyball team qualified for the Cascade Collegiate Conference Tournament for the ninth straight year. The Cavaliers finished in a tie for fourth in the conference standings with a 10-8 record. The team ended up fourth at the conference tournament, winning their opening round match. The Cavaliers finished with a 13-15 season record.
On Friday, January 26 the Concordia gymnasium will come alive for the University’s annual celebration of its Lutheran heritage – Lutheran Night. The basketball games will feature dancers and choirs from Portland-area Lutheran schools, as well as competitions, give-aways and more. Bring your church bulletin and get in for free. Women’s game starts at 5:30 p.m., men’s at 7:30 p.m. in Concordia’s gymnasium.
