June 4 - 6, 2010

The high school class of 1960 joined the Concordia's 50-Year Club during their 50th reunion held on campus June 4-6, 2010. Special thanks go to class organizers Dan Roesler, Doug Hensley, and John Rasmussen for planning the weekend, contacting fellow classmates, and getting everyone on campus. The group spent three days on campus and enjoyed a special luncheon with Emeriti Faculty members Dr. Dwaine Brandt, Dr. Art Wahlers, Dr. Hans Spalteholz, Dr. George Weller, and Professor Al Roth. The group also ate dinner at several Portland area restaurants including the Chart House, formerly known as Hill Villa, which was the site of their senior class banquet. The group spent hours telling stories and laughing with each other and the faculty members. The group went their separate ways on Sunday afternoon after a farewell luncheon filled with more stories and quite a few tearful goodbyes. The 50-Year Club is for all alums that have been out of Concordia for 50 years or more. They are honored in front of their peers and receive a Concordia lapel pin to commemorate the occasion. 2007 Alumni Games

2007 Alumni Soccer and Volleyball Games

August 18, 2007

In an afternoon of festivities on the campus of Concordia University, members of former Cavalier soccer and volleyball squads squared-off against current members of the Navy and White. At noon the women’s soccer team opened the day’s action. The crafty veterans kept the possession battle even for much of the first half and generated several scoring chances, but found themselves down 1-0 to the upstarts at the end of the first period.

With a thin bench working against the elders and Coach Landy’s condition regime paying dividends for the 2007 crew, the alumni allowed a few additional goals in the second half to the No. 3-ranked current Cavs. With the game winding down on the pitch, arms were winding up inside the gym as the volleyball teams took to the court. With a limited veteran ensemble, head coach Christopher Duenow mixed the generations in the best of three series, often placing the undergrads alongside their storied setters and swingers.

The 2007 team stormed out of gate with a 30-19 win in the first game, while the wily vets early lead squeaked out a 30-27 in the rematch. The third and deciding game was a back and forth affair with both teams leading by as many as four points with the alums generating the final run to pull away 30-27.

Back on the pitch for the men’s game, the “friendly” between the Navy and the White turned into an aggressively contested match as both teams firmly held their ground on the field. The current squad got on the board in the middle of the first period to go up 1-0, but found themselves trailing 2-1 by the middle of the second half. Working to avoid an inevitable running session following a loss, the current crew, increasingly desperate, found net once again with the clock dangerously ticking close to 0:00, to conclude with an, everyone goes home happy, 2-2 stalemate.

With the grill smoking to the side of the gym, competitive action all-around and hundreds in attendance, the day was enjoyed by all and the Cavalier staff would like to send a note of thanks to all that could attend and to all that put in the work to make the event possible.
