Dean's Message

Welcome to the College of Theology, Arts, & Sciences!

We are the home of the "liberal arts" at Concordia University!

ctas_david_kluth.jpgHow can your life make a difference in the world? It is more than simply picking a major or even a career. It involves developing your skills and talents and finding a meaningful place in society to use them to make a real difference in the lives of the people around you. The faculty and staff of the College of Theology, Arts, & Sciences (CTAS) are committed to helping students wrestle with that fundamental question and guide them in discovering ways to live a fulfilling life of leadership and service.

Liberal arts is a broad category that touches all aspects of life. A liberal arts education provides students with exposure to a wide range of subjects that help develop important critical thinking skills and prepare them to effectively live in a rapidly changing, complex world. The liberal arts provides the critical skills employers look for in hiring workers. Students are exposed to diverse experiences, both on and off campus, that nurture intelligence, faith, creativity, communication and values and help shape one’s character and perspective on life. The Concordia CTAS experience offers majors in: biology, chemistry, English, environmental management, history, humanities, pastoral studies, psychology and theological studies. Each major provides a variety of exciting career options but more importantly an excellent, well-rounded education that enables students to influence their world in positive ways in many different walks of life . . . and get a job.

Faculty members are passionate about their respective fields of study and value building strong relationships with their students through rigorous academic engagement. CTAS cultivates a community of life-long learners and builds relationships that will last for a lifetime. We invite you to join our award-winning students in carrying out cutting-edge research, participating in real work experience and building relationships with people who really care about you and your academic success!

Explore your options to the left by clicking on undergraduate and graduate programs within the College of Theology, Arts and Sciences. Feel free to contact me personally if you have any questions or would like to discuss any CTAS program. We are excited to announce the start of our new MA in Community Psychology! The program compliments our MA in International Development & Service.

God's richest blessings as you seek out a college home! We hope you decide to make that home Concordia University - Portland.
